Recap of Special Webcast on DNA Microarrays
Posted 11/19/2003

On November 18, The Science Advisory Board and Agilent Technologies, Inc., co-sponsored a special webcast on DNA microarrays and supporting technologies and products for Science Advisory Board members. During the one-hour webcast, Scott Vacha, Ph.D., an Agilent application specialist, presented information about Agilent's microarray technology for gene expression research. The presentation included a brief overview of the Agilent's total solution and then focused on the critical attributes of microarray technology including:

* In-Situ ink jet printing
* In-process quality control
* Sensitivity and specificity of 60'mer oligonucleotide probes

In addition to sharing insights about their company's innovative technologies, Agilent’s representative answered members’ questions about DNA microarrays and helped evaluate whether the company’s platform might address their experimental needs.  Questions were asked about interpreting genetic and chemical information, sample handling, and data management and reporting.

This webcast was a unique opportunity for members of The Science Advisory Board and the available slots filled up very quickly. Because of its popularity and success, we are interested in scheduling more technical based webcasts for 2004. If you have a technology you are interested in learning more about or a company whose instrumentation or reagents you would like to examine, please send Dr. Tamara Zemlo an email at t.zemlo@scienceboard.net with your suggestions.
