SAB NewsOnline Healthcare Information: Searching for Quality and ConveniencePosted 5/3/2004 When polled, members of The Science Advisory Board would most like to receive drug information through an online service that manages their healthcare records. The second most popular source of ancillary information would be disease-based. Most respondents were not as interested in receiving either medical directories or notifications of doctors’ appointments through an electronic management service. “Even scientists and allied health professionals are looking for reputable sources of non-biased health-related information,” observes Tamara Zemlo, Ph.D., MPH, Director of The Science Advisory Board. “Searching for disease facts or therapeutic options on the Internet is a daunting prospect given the variety of Web sites devoted to providing this content,” says Zemlo. “ And, I believe that people—even those very familiar with science and medicine—would prefer to access a single source of reliable health care information rather than search through pages of pages of uncertain subject matter.” |
