SAB NewsCongratulations to our May forum winners!Posted 6/9/2004 The Science Advisory Board’s Forum hosts a wide variety of topics and subjects. Our members in Romania are currently sharing protocols with their colleagues in Saudi Arabia, while a member in India is gaining some career advice from fellow members in Hong Kong and Canada. From questions about kits and reagents to jokes about politics, our Forum offers a place for life scientists from around the world to seek advice, troubleshoot experiments, share academic and career experiences, and simply engage in small talk with people that share similar passions and professions. Click here to join in today. We have almost 600 active voices in our Forum and while they provide a lively stage for questions and banter, we would like to encourage our remaining community to speak up and take part. To facilitate this we ran a special during the month of May that gave everyone who posted the opportunity to be rewarded for simply stating their opinion. Every week we randomly selected two winners who had posted a thoughtful contribution during the month of May. Each winner received a $25 gift certificate from amazon.com. Have a look at what they had to say: Margareta, a member from Sweden, added her opinion on acrylamide gels to our very popular ‘Bio Kits and Reagents’ section while DocPPAR from the UK added an interesting spin to the ‘Diseases and Disorders’ thread on the potential for toxicity in vegetables. Microbe posted a question about methods of protein quantifications from his home in India and received a variety of suggestions and ideas from his fellow members in our ‘Proteomics’ section. Idelgado, coming to us from the US, was seeking some advice about a career path in our ‘Career Advice’ folder while JCPearson provided us with a good laugh when he alerted us to a Web page that offered “codon activation” for only $45 in our active ‘Humor in Science and Medicine’ folder. (Codon activation being SO difficult to come by these days!) Gavrilov, a senior member from the US, provided a link to the DVD footage of the entire International Longevity Conference in our ‘Conference Announcements’ section. Johnboy joined in from the UK to help out a fellow member in Asia with some advice on the Cockroft & Gault formula in ‘Protocol Reviews’ while rwintle, a senior member from Canada rang in with some unfiltered opinions about his experience with Fisher Brand in our latest addition ‘Companies and Suppliers’ folder. Congratulations to all of our members and thank you to everyone who took the time to post.
