Winners of Sales Reps Service Study
Posted 1/18/2005

The Science Advisory Board (SAB) decided to examine the role sales reps play in facilitating this research and questioned 1,800 members regarding the personal qualities that they look for in their sales reps. Additionally, SAB members were asked to list the professional training and skills that they expect their reps to have.

Our scientists were also invited to describe when sales reps are most needed to facilitate purchase decisions and to clarify which forms of assistance and support are considered essential. The results are presented in a new study, "Service & Support From Your Life Science Sales Reps," the highlights of which can be accessed by clicking here.

SAB members were invited to share their thoughts and experiences with sales reps in our Discussion Forum, and their collective comments can be read at this thread.

We received a lot of great feedback, which made it difficult to select just three responses to our SAB Bonus Question that we regularly include in our studies. The winners receive a $20 Amazon.com gift certificate. However, after much debate the following three submissions were selected for this honor:

“A knowledgeable sales rep can do a lot for the reputation of a technical company. For me, the quality of a sales rep determines whether future business will happen. It is important to receive suggestions which lead to a decrease in time- and money-consuming unsuccessful experiments.”
-“tucson”, Lab Director, Germany

“I have a great deal of trust with the reps that I deal with - those sales representatives that are dishonest or misrepresent their products do not get access to our lab. I don't want to change products frequently and re-optimize protocols, so having trust that I am committing to the best product at the best price is important.”
- “cawells”, Postdoctoral Fellow, Australia

“Now that the Internet supplies much of the ordering and product information, I think sales reps are most valuable when it comes to being able to identify products that will aid my research and bring forth new products or point out why their product is superior to their competitors.”
-“dseverde”, Lab Technician, United States
