Winners Announced of New Scientist Subscription Contest
Posted 4/1/2005

The Science Advisory Board recently launched a partnership with New Scientist magazine, which provides Members of The Science Advisory Board with the latest headlines impacting the sciences. To broaden awareness of this partnership, a contest was announced in the March 2005 SAB Newsletter that would award five free six-month subscriptions to New Scientist. Excitement over the contest was immediate and over 250 SAB Members entered. The contest winners were selected at random from amongst all entries. The winners by Screen Name are:

"Ramses," a Post Doctoral Fellow working in the United States; "Noor Wijayahadi," a Professor in Malaysia; "Marcie" a Lab Director/Supervisor/Coordinator in Belgium; "mbelmonte, "a Post Doctoral Fellow working in the United Kingdom; and "edhubbard1" a Post Doctoral Fellow working in France

Drawings such as these are not atypical. With the recent SAB mass spectrometry studies, every Member who completed the study's questionnaire received 50 ViewPoints, as well as an entry into a drawing to win an Apple iPod. ViewPoints can be used to redeem a wide variety of rewards through The SAB's "Rewards Catalog."

Dr. Tamara Zemlo, Executive Director of The Science Advisory Board, encourages all Members to log-on to the SAB Web site (www.scienceboard.net) to ensure that their profile contains up-to-date information regarding: their current e-mail address; institution where they conduct scientific research; and areas of expertise. Accurate Member profiles are essential, as they are used to invite Members to participate in studies that match their areas of expertise and, where appropriate, to verify Member qualifications and award honoraria.

Finally, it has come to The SAB's attention that spam filters employed by SAB Members may be intercepting study invitations, newsletters, and contest communications sent by The Science Advisory Board. To avoid such occurrences, it is important that all Members have the following e-mail addresses added to their e-mail account's list of approved addresses:

n.karle@scienceboard.org  and n.karle@scienceboard.net  (Nate Karle - Online Communications Manager, The Science Advisory Board)

t.zemlo@scienceboard.net  and t.zemlo@scienceboard.org  (Tamara Zemlo, Executive Director, The Science Advisory Board)

Once again, The Science Advisory Board congratulates all of the contest winners and bids them best wishes in the coming Spring.
