The Science Advisory Board Honoraria Program
Posted 4/21/2005

SAB Member contributions to The Science Advisory Board's work have had a direct impact on many of the tools, techniques, and instrumentation now utilized in life science research, as well as on those that will become available in the years to come.

Each and every time Members participate in SAB-sponsored studies, they earn honoraria in the form of ViewPoints, that can be redeemed for a wide variety of rewards through The Science Advisory Board's "Rewards Catalog."

In order to be invited to contribute to SAB studies, you must become a Member of The Science Advisory Board.

Join The Science Advisory Board Today! Current SAB Members can update their profile and check their ViewPoints balance, by accessing The SAB Member Profile page.

Earn More Viewpoints:

Outlined below are a wide range of simple and effective ways that SAB Members can increase their ViewPoints balance.

Earn More ViewPoints: Ensure That Your SAB Profile is Current

By failing to keep your Member Profile up-to-date, you miss invitations to other studies for which you would be qualified to participate - - studies that influence the future development of the biomedical technologies you utilize in your research.

You can avoid this dilemma by updating your profile with accurate and complete information, such as your: active e-mail address; current areas of expertise; and the institution, along with the country it is located in, where you presently conduct scientific research.

Each and every time Members participate in SAB-sponsored studies they earn honoraria in the form of ViewPoints, that can be redeemed for a wide variety of rewards through The Science Advisory Board's "Rewards Catalog."

Moreover, bonus award drawings are not atypical. For instance, in a study entitled "IT in Genomics Research," every Member who completed the study's questionnaire received 50 ViewPoints and an entry into a drawing to win an Apple iPod. The winner of the Apple iPod was announced on the The Science Advisory Board's Web site.

All SAB Members are encouraged to write a "Member Perspective," as they typically spark lively debate in The SAB Forum. All "Perspectives" must include a title and consist of an essay of 1,000 words or more relating broadly to science, medicine, or research. If your 'Perspective' is selected, you will receive 250 ViewPoints.

To submit a "SAB Member Perspective" e-mail Mike Kibler, Executive Director of The Science Advisory Board.

Earn More Viewpoints: Contribute to the "SAB Online Forum"

The Science Advisory Board's Online Forum is one of the most frequently visited sections of The SAB Web site. Over the last five years, thousands of Members from throughout the world have exchanged views on myriad topics. To grow this resource, The SAB awards 100 ViewPoints to Members who write a substantive protocol for inclusion in the database. Once submitted, the protocol is reviewed by an SAB staff member and ViewPoints are then awarded to protocols that meet the minimum criteria of: completeness and understandability. All protocols must be the original work of the author and/or credit sources where applicable. For this activity, SAB Members can earn a maximum of 300 ViewPoints credit per calendar year. Examples of acceptable protocols can be viewed by accessing The SAB Protocol database.

To submit a protocol, please access the SAB Protocol Submission WebForm.

SAB Members receive 25 ViewPoints for every applicant they refer who is accepted for Membership in The SAB. The applicant must insert the SAB Member's Screen-Name when prompted in the Membership Application. For this activity, SAB Members can earn a maximum of 100 ViewPoints credit per calendar year.

Beyond directly inviting colleagues to join The SAB via e-mail, one simple and very effective way to build Viewpoints is to include in your automated e-mail signature line the following: the Membership Application link (http://scienceboard.net/register/), your SAB ScreenName, and the descriptive text that appears below. Each day, dozens upon dozens of your colleagues, who themselves could be qualified for membership, might view e-mails from you and be encouraged to join The SAB.

To earn up to 100 ViewPoints through new SAB Member referrals, add the following to your automated e-mail signature line:

"Contribute to the future of Biomedical Research and Clinical Technologies...Join the Science Advisory Board: http://www.scienceboard.net/register/"

Configure your spam filters, otherwise you'll never get invited to a SAB study!

One of the most significant ways that SAB Members fail to earn ViewPoints is due to spam filters that inadvertently intercept invitations to participate in SAB Studies, as well as other valuable communications from The Science Advisory Board. One of the simplest methods of building your ViewPoints balance is by ensuring that the following e-mails have been added to your spam filter's list of approved addresses:

c.seguin@scienceboard.org and c.seguin@scienceboard.net  (Catherine Seguin, The Science Advisory Board)

r.mankhey@scienceboard.org and r.mankhey@scienceboard.net  (Richard Mankhey, The Science Advisory Board)

m.kibler@scienceboard.net  and m.kibler@scienceboard.org  (Mike Kibler, Executive Director, The Science Advisory Board)

Earn More ViewPoints: Contribute Content to the SAB Web Site

Once submitted, the content is reviewed by an SAB staff member. 25 ViewPoints are then awarded to submissions of 150 words or more that are complete and accurate. All submissions must be the original work of the author and credit the sources were applicable. For this activity, SAB Members can earn a maximum of 400 ViewPoints credit per calendar year by contributing four submissions to each of the four content categories: book reviews, product reviews, Web sites, and databases.
