SAB NewsBonus Quote Winner from the "Reverse Transcriptase" StudyPosted 3/13/2006 The Science Advisory Board recently conducted a study entitled “Reverse Transcriptase.” This study ask over 500 of our members what features of the current available reverse transcriptase products contribute to their decision of which products they use in their research. Highlights from the study are in the Study Snapshots section on the Web site. As a token of our appreciation, participants—in addition to each receiving 50 ViewPoints for completing the study—were entered into a drawing for a $20 gift certificate from Amazon.com. We are pleased to announce that Laura Bover, Staff Scientist, USA, was selected as the contest winner. When asked “What do you like and/or dislike about the reverse transcriptase kits currently on the market and what features should suppliers include to improve them?" Laura replied: “What I don't like from some kits is that reagents usually are supplied in amounts that are not consistent. For instance, one of the reagents often runs out before the other components. And if you need more of that reagent you have to buy the whole kit. This makes it almost impossible to maintain a regular purchase schedule, especially for researchers from other countries (i.e. from South America) for whom the prices are usually too high. Instead, what I like is that some companies offer special discounts on kits that are close to their expiration dates. My comments are mainly based on my almost 25 years of experience working in Argentina, with very restrictive funds, before coming to the USA where I am working now. “ Thank you to all of The Science Advisory Board members who made this study possible. The Science Advisory Board provides opportunities for its members to earn honoraria each and every time they participate in the Board’s studies. Interested in finding out more?
