A comfortable pair of old slip-on shoes. They aren't very exciting, in fact, you hardly notice them in the closet, but you end up pulling them out on a regular basis. Sometimes you try what you think are a niftier pair of shoes, but then you get a blister and go back to the old tried-and-true shoes that you know won't let you down. A DNA molecular weight marker is one of the most important work-horse items in the toolkit of any molecular biologist. Therefore I think of my DNA molecular weight market as a set of horseshoes. A good pair of Reeboks. Works great in the lab, reliable, always consistent and dependable. They work the same every time I buy them, so I know what to expect. Couldn't work without them. Comforting to know they're there. Not the most exciting of products, but exceptional all the same. A Jimmy-Choo shoe with multi-colored strings representing bands on a gel. All neatly arranged and can be tight or loosely spread based on run time. A leather casual - It goes with just about anything. A pair od slippers, always lying around and dependable. A pair of ballet shoes or dance shoes by which you can leap from marker band to marker band to experimental band to determine how close or how far they are apart for size determination. A pair of dress shoes from crocodile leather because I like the even pattern. A pair of favorite training shoes, as it is comfortable to use can be used to do a number of jobs and lasts a long time. A pair of hiking boots because it would tramp along steadily and not be slowed by little imperfections in the trail. It would be a strong early on as in the end. A pair of long-jumper's track shoes: able to span a signficant distance with regularly spaced markings. A pair of old comfortable sneakers. Why? Because they are comfortable, dependable and I use them everyday. No matter what happens they are always there and I know what the sizes are... A pair of old, soft leather mules because I can slip right in and feel comfortable and content and know they will take me where I want to go (as they have for years and years). A pair of work boots it's a work-horse of labo. cannot imagine other than a pair of work boots. A pair of work boots, utalitarian and functional, but also stable and able to withstand the rigors of daily use. A pairs of sandals, because I always wear them in the lab. A slip on - it is ready to go, always reliable and doesnt take that extra effort. Absolutely work boots. A necessity on the job but no frills needed (tassles either). Actually, I think the markers are more like the metal device that (in the old days) was always used to decide what size shoe you needed. That is, they help you make decisions. But if they have to be shoes, I'd say comfortable work shoes that allow you to do your job without fuss or worry. Adidas sneakers. good, convenient and trusty. As in life, one pair of shoes is not enough (and I'm male). The bare shoe minimum (for boys) is a pair of solid boots, a pair of regular wear cross trainers and a pair of dress to impress shoes. Similarly, we use different markers for different purposes. Our workhorse (by volume), the PROMEGA ROX-labeled standard for fluorescent genotyping, is the equivalent of a solid pair of boots in the Timberland/Caterpillar price range: good quality, but can rub in certain situations (peak splitting, can screw up calls, eg). These are added to each sample, so loading dye not an issue and possibly inappropriate For agarose based applications, 100 bp ladders (no strong preference for source except by price) are the comfortable gym shoe/trainer: useful in many situations, highly inappropriate in others. Simplicity and comfort without concern for formality (read regularity of spacing) is key to usefulness. Loading buffer included OK but not critical, as other samples need to have it added. Dress shoes are the cloning application marker: rarely worn, but important that they be right when needed. Quantitation might be useful, but would require summation over bands or a mass estimate for fragments of different sizes. We often use an extra lane of a quantified single band standard anyway (usually vector). Ballet shoes: very precise steps on stage (=gel), telling the story every time in the same precise way. Birkenstock sandals. It can be used/worn in many situations: casually, in summer (without socks); for business (with dark socks); and as winter wear (with thick cotton socks). Birkenstocks DNA markers are like Birks because they're reliable, comfortable, and I use them every day. Birkenstocks! Inexplicable, either you get it or you don't. Birkinstock. Comfortable, familiar, and gets the job done. Blue suede (bromophenol blues !). Boat shoots, always ready even if left outside and mistreated. Boots...these boots are made for working (walking) and to work (walk) all over you. Bowling shoes as they glide along the lane... Broken in running shoes--they are the most comfortable, trouble free, reliable shoes in the closet. They are the ones you prefer to wear, especially when you cannot. You know their limitations best. They seem to last the longest of any other shoes in the closet. They are great for easy jaunts (trivial experiments) and long distance runs (more labor intensive or important experiments). Casual boots. I want to be able to use them for a long time, in many occasions, and still be comfortable. Casual shoe- comfortable, but looks well enough to fit in most environments. Cinderella's slippers, they are light and nimble and shine under the lights! Classic Reeboks. Look good in all but the most demanding situations, comfortable to use, and help me get a grip on my DNA fragments! Climbing shoes; they get you into the unexplored! Clogs - easy to put on, light to wear, easy to carry around and store, no worries in most environments. Clogs. Easy to slip on and off and has good impact when you throw them at someone. C'mon, if your DNA markers are not as comfortable as an old pair of sneakers then you are stressing way too much about your work. Come on! This is SUCH a girlie question! How about something a little more manly, like: Imagine your DNA molecular weight marker was a pick-up truck; what would it be? A Ford F350, for only it could leave such unequivocal tires marks as it effortlessly plows a straight path down the inhospitable terrain of soft agarose and ethidium bromide saturated under the pond of salt solution which in futility tries to gnaw away at the integrity of the masterful machine. ...Otherwise, I choose the sandals... Comfortable boat shoes. They may not be the most elegant or modern, but they are reliable, fit well with my needs, and I always know how they are going to behave without having to learn a lot of new information about them. Comfortable dress loafers. you can wear them just about anywhere and to any occasion, and their comforatble, cuz you're only as happy as your feet. Comfortable slippers. Comfortable tennis shoes. Comfortable walking shoes to be able to withstand long sessions in the lab. Comfy sneaker - should fit and feel familiar as a good friend. Confortable shoes for sensible feet that can be used every day, everywhere, by any season with no pain for the feet. Such shoes can be more expensive but they are so confortable that they are price worth. Confortable work shoes: No need to be fancy as long as they accomplish the task without too much effort. Are needed but should not be noticed. Cycling shoes, since they lock you into the system. Cycling shoes: my cycling shoes keep me clipped to the pedals. MW markers keep my data anchored to standards. Dansko -kind of stylish and fun, but very practical and comfortable at the same time. I need a marker that is practical -good band spacing, easy to see, but it's also good to have a marker that is easy to load, room temperature friendly, and not too expensive. Definitely a pair of sandals - something with which I'm very comfortable, gets me through the day with ease, and look good to boot! Definitely black boots with a short heel. They go with almost anything, and look sexy too. Just like my favorite marker - can "go" with most gels and PCR products, and looks crisp clear and sexy doing it. Definitely sneakers. Solid, dependable - a workhorse really. Nothing too flashy. Just your everyday sneakers. Definitely work books! - nothing glamorous but gets the job done and I'm comfortable wearing them - they never let me down. Diamond sparkles with white patent leather! life is fun and the sun can shine. DNA MW markers are like high-performance ski boots - because they are absolutely essential for getting superior, accurate results in a timely manner. DNA MW markers ought to be like a pair of Italian leather loafers: ready to use with minimal preparation, made by reliable manufacturers with a long tradition of care and craftsmanship, that look elegant and neat, and that are likely to last for long... Doc Marten's. No question as to what they are! Dress shoes ... make a data look pretty. Dress shoes, because I use them the most. I like to walk and some times in week go by walk to work, one directions is about 5 km. Dress shoes, nice and neat. Dress shoes. It must be elegant and precise. Dress shoes. They have to be neat, precise, shining, all the time. Dress shoes. They look good, make a good impression, need attention and are a great value all while getting the job done. Dress Shoes: because they should be of right size fit; neat, presentable, easy to put on,and comfortable! Flip flops. Because they provide comfort and style along with easy usage. You don't need to tie your shoe laces. Just slip them on and go. Flip-Flop... Using the molecular weight marker is like a walk on the beach in flip flops. It is easy, reliable, and takes the stress away .. Flip-flops, because you should just be able to quickly plop it on (or in a gel) and it works! Fluorescent colours! Flashing Lights! (Just kidding) Shoes would need to be of very high quality, but at the same time stylish and easy on the eyes. Fluorescent, and giving me flexibility to use them. High Heals, small steps and due to the sheer wait on the heel deep impact! High quality and comfortable, that is for DNA, high stability, reliable and easy to use. A helping tool not a problem. Hiking boots: needs to be rugged, reliable, provide good support, and be of the right size of course! Hiking shoes, strong and stable can be totally relied upon. Hunting boots...they are functional, comfortable, and don't give you blisters. I am a little embarassed to admit but the price and convenience would not be the priority issues in that case! I would like to have it fancy, comfortable and colorful. I think for that very reason I like Roche and Ambion catalogs-both make one feel romantic if you will? Would not that be nice to have both traits in the products we use on a regular basis like MW markers? I frequently use the phiX 174 DNA marker. To me it is like a good pair of "worn-in" shoes. They are comfortable and easy to use and still give function well, even though they've been around for a while. I guess as long as there was a full range os sizes to choose from, any type of shoes would be fine. I have to use some special markers everyday. Think it should be in assortiment, like a shoes. I imagine markers as a pair of comfortable hiking boots with purple laces. They're utilitarian, rugged but we couldn't walk in the wilderness without them. I imagine that those shoes would be a pair of black leather dress shoes, because I want everything to go well and look nice when I run my PCR gels! I like my DNA markers to be like my sneakers. Comfortable to be with, prepared to perform if I'm in a hurry and so versatile in many different situations. We make a good team. I like my sneakers when they are well-worn and I feel similarly about my markers. I am comfortable with them and I can use them with only a little effort. I like them to be like slippers, comfortable and no surprises. I need MWM dayly like I wear shoes everyday (e.g. sneakers). I need them to be running shoes because it does not matter how expensive or how elegant they are if they can not run on electrophoresis. I prefer sneakers. It became very personal during last years. There are a lot of them: very masculine styles, or feminine ones, funny or suitable, as a dress shoes. It is something exempting one may use during a weekend whereas putting the dress shoes during the whole week. It is a pair of shoes, which you know that it is always there if you need it, and it fits always well. I think I would say "mounteneering shoes"; As I am using the same marker for 23 years know, almost everyday of my live, I think he should be very solid and resistant. As the shoes resist very well, the prize "goes down over the years" making them finally a cheap investment; that's the same for my marker... cutting Lambda DNA with PstI doesnot cost a lot of time and Lambda DNA is cheap; So instead of investing a lot of money in "custom-markers" which are very expensive ... I gain a lot of money for my labn and have still an optimal marker for my research. The only exception I make ... RNA molecular weight markers! = Balerina shoes...weak quality, no resistance (and difficult to make yourself). I think it might appear as lengthier, narrow shapedÖ.just looks like a snow board! So that I can use either in ice or at landscape because of having the advantage to splice out the extra accessories as well as able to shine in dark places! In summary I will become an adventure scientist! I think my favorite marker (50 bp ladder from Invitrogen) are like workboots, they work as I expect year after year after year. I think that it will be a pair of dress shoes--definitely need it to do work and make money! But can do without it on a vacation, or on a weekend! I think that my favourite DNA molecular weight marker may be like sandals ñ convenient for usage and quick moving, forming bands on the gel like strips of sandals. I think they are as important as dress shoes. I think they would be dress shoes, because most of the time they look better than our samples. I think workboots. The kind of research we do looks like working, as a farmer, in the Dutch clay. Boots are therefore OK. I use Quick-Load 100 bp DNA Ladder from New England BioLabs. If it were a pair of shoes it would be sandals, they are easy to use (wear) and the pattern of the marker is fun. I would choose sneakers. I feel very comfortable in them as I expect my DNA marker to be when I look at it on a gel. I would consider it like a pair of leather, knee length, boots. The boots are versatile you can wear them with skirts, jeans, or dress pants. The marker can be run on variety of gel types. The ladder has such a range in size that you can run it from a 0.8% gel up to a 4% and still see what you need. The marker is mixed with loading dye so you can watch it as it runs and know how far your DNA has migrated. The dye will have quantitation standards built in so you can use it to determine DNA concentration. Like leather is long lasting, one tube of the marker would be able to run 100 gels minimum, without losing quality halfway through the tube. I would go with Dr. Martens because they come in all shapes and styles. The have the ladder that you don't mind getting dirty, and the fancy ones you can wear with a suit. Also, as soon as you start wearing/using them the mold to your uses perfectly. Always dependable and reliable. I would imagine my Invitrogen 1KB plus ladder to be a giant cowboy boot as they KICK ASS! I would like it as sandals.. so my legs can breath and move as comfortable as i want. it grips as well. I would love my molecular weight marker to be colorful, comfortable, all-4-season, weather proof, easy to slip on & "stain-proof" sneakers! Colorful as compared to the ordinary sneakers so they stand out amongst my collection of shoes. They would be useful at all temperatures & I can take them with me everywhere I go no matter what my mode of travel. Since they would be for everyday rough use, I could leave them anywhere & not be worried. It would be even better if they were self-cleaning whenever immersed in water! :-). I would think they would look like the dress shoes because we could use this kind of clear Marker with sharper bands not only for determination of the size of our DNA sample, but also showing it at the picture for publication. So the fuction is more like the dress shoes, not only for walking, but also for its elegant looking in the formal party! I would think, my favorite DNA molecular weight marker should be a pair of work boots, because they are robust, comfortable, safe and you can use them everywhere. Its the most parcicable way for overall usage. I would want my marker to be an all-rounder shoe. That is, to look smart, yet funky (with a bright colour or two) and if needed, you can go on a short hike with it! So it should be tough and reliable as well! Most important, it should be able to handle any terrain, weather condition and/or tough environment that nature throws at it, and still be comfortable! I'd have to say my marker is a pair of strappy sandals, because of the cute lines it makes up and down the gel. IF IT WERE WORK SHOES, WHICH i USE ALL THE DAY i WOULD PREFER TO HAVE THEM EASY AND COMFORTABLE TO WEAR. If my DNA marker was a pair of shoes it would be a nice shiny black pair of dress shoes that I only wear to funerals and weddings. To be honest I run markers for special occasions, on most run of the mill gels there is usually some sort of internal control/marker/digest and running a marker is a waste of money. If my favorite DNA molecular weight marker was a pair of shoes I'd be a shoemaker. I find it surprising, that nobody has yet started to distribute an "open source" plasmid that can be cut with e.g. EcoRI to yield a kilobase (or whatever other type of) DNA-ladder. Such plasmid is easy to make and a mass prep satisfies your basic needs for quite a while; maybe I should start distributing my plasmids. If my molcular weight marker were a pair of shoes, it would be a glow in the dark, fluorescently painted flip flop sandal... Flexible and can be seen in both the light and the dark... If the DNA markers were a pair of shoes, they would be tennis shoes because the markers like tennis shoes are comfortable to use (wear) and are dependable. I'll like it to be a pair of sandals which I can put it on leisurely without giving it much thought. In the movie "Wag the Dog", Willie Nelson wrote a song about comfortable old shoes. That's what a good marker should be. Something comfortable and friendly, that fits well and you have a good history with and that you can trust to go the distance. It clearly would be a pair of old beat up slippers. Very comfortable to use, easy to slip into and out of, nothing fancy but does a great job. Exactly what I need. It is probably less associated with the type of shoes, but rather with strong sole-marking shoe capability. I can imaging a robot-looking man in a black suit wearing dress (formal) shoes walking on a soft ground leaving the equal size space steps. It must be easy to use, wear, easy to locate and distinguish. It our routine use and we need to mamerize it easily and could easily distinguished from other sizes. Having a loaading dye in it will make it like a straper for convinience to use. It should be a Budapester, good hand-made preparation, well looking and long lasting. It should be a pair of sneakers. It should be like bicycle shoe with built in spidometer, that shows how fast bike is going... It will be a SANDAL, which one will like to wear & forget about it. One which is comfortable to use, hassle free and userfriendly. It will be adidas swimming slippers, because the bands will have known distance in between. It would be a dress shoe since it is impressive to work with. It would be a pair of Birkenstocks. You can wear them with anything (at least in the world of biology!), and even though they might not be perfect, they'll do the trick every time, and make the user comfortable. It would be a pair of old sneakers, because I know it will make me feel comfortable and I could wear it in many occasions. It would be a pair of red wind work boots. It does the job and is stable. It would be a pair of shoes that has a very flexible toe region, so that it will not cause problems when annealing (akneeling)! (You said lighthearted!). It would be a pair of sneakers as it will have to be colourful and be in a position to provide comfort as I increase my pace. I will also be in a position to use it for more occasions i.e. during sports or just for casual wear. It would be a pair of sneakers because it makes me feel comfortable, can be used under different conditions, is easy to handle and safe. It would be a pair of sneakers. Because it would be lightweight, all-weather, low-maintainance, have super comfortable heels/soles and breathable uppers that would allow you to have them on all day and seem like being bare-feet minus the associated discomfort! It would be a pair of sneakers. There is a gel on bench, There is a path on the gel. Torch race runners are running on the path. They wear different cloths but the same shoes, sneakers sharing the same benchmark. It would be a pair of strappy sandals with different color straps of with one thick strap and would tie around my ankles with a little overhang. It would be a pair of those comfy sneakers you where on the weekends. The ones that are so comfortable that you don't need to even break them in cause they fit just right the day you bought them The ones that you hope that they keep making, but if they don't, you'll go out and buy three more pairs so that you are set for the next decade cause guaranteed, the one thing you are comfortable with they manufacturer will never make again. It would be an Adidas shoe. It's not too expensive, too flashy, convenient, tried and true and comfortable, but high quality. It would be like a pair of well-worn out sneakers in the trunk of the car. They're always there ready to be put on and beat up some more on a moment's notice; they're very comfortable as they wear out well; they do have some holes in the middle [MW] and the high [MW] end is kind of smudged, so nobody can tell what brand those were anymore, but I don't care as long as they runs well on my road. It would be my work shoe since it is a necessity for work and comfort. It would be reliable in terms of comfort, price stability, repeatability, stable etc. It would be Russian valenki - as DNA molecular wieght markers spend a lot of time in the freezer. It would be sandals, because we use low mw markers. It would be work boots. Reliable and stable, I don't need fancy features. Of course if they were cheap work boots, that would be even better. =). It would definitely be a pair of work boots, considering that it is stable, dependable and goes to work daily. It would have to be black in the day and glow in the dark at night (that is when I'm dancing). It's an easy way to test if a DNA ligase works. DNA ladders do usually have sticky ends. If ligase is working, DNA ladder should be disrupted. It's like some kind of well designed Italian shoes, dressy but confortable like slippers. When you see them in a shop you should say: ok, this is it: tha's MY pair of shoes, no matter the price. I've got the possibility to choose the type of shoes: I only have to increase the Voltage to transform the lame boots to fast running sneakers, I can change from skates to hard working boots by increasing the percentage of agarose. Jogging shoes, the marker always has to run! Knee high leather boots because I use the 1kb plus ladder which gives a really a wide size range. I would probably say lace up so that the laces represent the many sizes of band. I also think this is quite a sexy size marker! Like an old pair of comfortable slippers - not pretty or fancy, just there when you need it to do an everyday job. Like lead diving boots- molecular weight markers should go straight to the bottom of the well and stay there! Loafers- They're confortable and can be worn every day. Loafers. Easy to use. Markers are of daliy use like shoes but must it be they beas expensive as shoes? I would love the shoes to be very affordable if not dirt cheap. The way I should not control my walking for long lasting of my shoes, my experiments should be carefree about drying up the liquid in the vial containing the Molecular marker. 2-3 combination of marker would suffice my needs like 2-3 pair of shoes are enough. Mephisto I like Mephisto because I am a lot on my feet, much of it in the lab and a great percentage of it standing. It is a good comfortable shoe. The key is to get a good fit and the shoe does the rest. It is good for walking. It is comfortable enough for daily wear and dressy enough to not look out of place in a more formal situation. Mine would be loafers. They should be appropriate for many occasions, just dressy enough but also casual enough. They should be cheap, easy to use (take on and off), and come in a range of styles (DNA sizes). Mine would be those flashy Nike Air Jordan types. I imagine the markers zipping down the gel and spreading out into a professional formation like a basketball team ready to defend the hoop. Moccasin-comfortable, easy to use, and functional. My DNA marker would be a pair of sneakers- multi-purposeful, fashionable, easy to select and purchase, and comfortable (established protocols)! Not only would my "sneakers" be all of these things, they would enable speed in my research! My DNA marker would be a series of the same shoe with different heel heights to fit whatever event I was to attend each day. My DNA molecular marker would be dress shoes. This is because without the marker it is difficult to see the relevence of the band much the same way as without the proper shoes, an outfic can be ruined... it is reaching but you did ask! My DNA molecular weight marker is like a pair of Birkenstock sandals. It felt a little weird at first when I changed to it, but now that I have become used to it I am so comfortable with it that I don't even have to think when I'm using it. My DNA molecular weight marker would be my Birkenstock sandels. They are always reliable and feel comfortable to use. They might cost a bit but last for quite a long time. :-). My DNA molecular weight markers are red sneakers. RUN TO THE RED! My DNA MW marker would be an old pair of comfy sneakers. I've used the same MW markers for years and years and when I run DNA on a gel I'm so used to using that MW marker that its become second nature, the same way a person would feel about a comfy pair of shoes that they have worn for years, broken in, and automatically slip on out of habit. My everday shoes- I depend on them, I don't have to worry if my feet will hurt if I walk too much or if they are too dressy, not dressy enough. They are the standard. Granted, for special occasions, I may need to wear something else, and I wouldn't run in them, but day-to-day, they are what I rely on. My favorite clogs for sure...have to be easy to pull out of the closet. Have to be quick and easy to get 'em on and easy to get rid of them when done. My favorite DNA markers are like an old pair of comfortable slippers that you can throw on at a moment's notice to run outside and retrieve the morning paper. You don't have to think about them, and they always keep your feet warm (unless, as was the case this morning, the puppy has chewed a hole in them!). My favorite DNA molecular weight marker from Fermentas is like a pair of espadrillos I bought in the last summer sale. They are ok, not expensive, also make no problems normally, but you should not expect too much of a performance. I bought them because it was convenient then (as is a stock freezer), but to be honest I would rather like robust work boots I can rely on in every situation and which never leave me alone. My favorite DNA molecular weight marker is like a favorite pair of old slippers - not as pretty as other, newer slippers might be, and no extra bells and whistles, but familiar, very comfortable, you can count on them to keep your feet warm, and you can't beat the price. My favorite DNA molecular weight marker should be like a pair of trainers: cheap, confortable and suitable for any occasion. My favorite DNA molecular weight marker would be a fancy pair of Jimmy Choos! Beautiful to see, of highest quality, and on-point! My favorite DNA molecular weight marker would be a pair of converse sneakers. It has been around for a long time, it is popular with the young crowd (who don't want to make their own like some "seasoned" researchers), and it will probably be around for quite a while. My favorite DNA molecular weight marker would be a pair of old, worn, dirt-covered cowboy boots. This would be the case because I have gotten many years of use out of this brand of markers, they have been very reliable, and they are very resiliant to all types of conditions. My favorite DNA molecular weight marker would be a pair of running shoes because the bands have a great shape and size to them and they run so well. My favorite DNA molecular weight marker would be a pair of tennis shoes. Like tennis shoes, DNA markers are a workhorse in the lab, not splashy but very functional, often overlooked, but a neccesity. My favorite DNA molecular weight marker would not be a sandal as there would be too may possibilities of errors due to its open nature. It would not be a pair of dress shoes which although will have crisp lines and will be well defined yet it will need too much care. It would not be work boots as it would be very rough and I would need clean lines. Yes it would be the sneakers where it would be very comfortable to handle, well defined lines and cool! My favorite DNA molecular weight markers would be a pair of well-broken-in cowboy boots: reliable, dependable, requiring no maintenance or upkeep, and suitable for all but the most formal of occasions. My favorite ladder is "sharp" like my dress shoes. Explanation: The bands of the ladder are sharp and detailed. My dress shoes are sharp (look good). My favorite marker is a pair of tennis shoes; much worn and well loved. It feels like an old friend when i see it on the gel! My favorite marker would be work boots since they are sturdy and reliable, everybody can read them (I am working!)There is no competetion whose shoes are better looking. We can't live without them! My favorite markers (1 kb ladder) are like my favorite shoes- a pair of black Maryjanes. Not too expensive or too fussy, not too showy. Very functional and down to earth, reliable, but they dress up when required. My favorite old pair of sneaker. Comfortable, reliable and part of the family. My favorite pair of Dr Martens boots - utterly reliable, very comfortable to use, and still look cool when compared to the latest fads and fashions. My favorite pair of shoes are my new fencing shoes! Markers, like fencers, take measured steps and must stay within a prescribed area. If they slip or go off the strip (lane), they are no good to me at all. My favourite DNA ladder would be a pair of go-anywhere hiking shoes that look like sneakers - they can withstand a bit of rough handling, but still perform excellently under all sorts of conditions, but still look smart enough to get away with in a restaurant or a conference, without everyone staring at your feet! My favourite DNA molecular weight marker would be work boots because it is robust, easy-to-use, reliable, gets me where I need to go. My favourite marker is like a pair of slippers, reliable and comfortable giving complete relaxation in the laboratory. My favourite molecular weight marker would be a pair of hiking shoes since their tread should leave a clear and unique print after each step. My Fermentas O'Gene rulers are like the perfect pair of black boots: able to handle all of the work I need it to do each day, but with their distinctive green and orange dyes, I still love looking at them every day! My Invitrogen mol weight marker would be a pair of pretty, strappy high-heeled sandals. They match my sundress perfectly (Invitrogen E-gel), but I'm not sure they fit anything else in my closet. Although they are great for a quick stroll along the boardwalk, I have a feeling that for any other application, they might not hold up. But, when I wear that slinky sundress, they're the bomb! My leather sneakers. They are my workhorse in day to day activities, are a dependable name brand, conform to my way of doing things, are easy to use, and don't cost very much. My marker is work boots. In our lab it is hard working, but mostly reliable. We ask it to do many things - sizing, concentration, control - in various situations. It cannot fail or results are put at risk. Would you go to work in sandals? I think not. Can you rely on dress shoes? Please. My markers would be some sandals. In principle because they are for my the most practical footwear, I can combine it with dresses, jeans and pants, for formal occasions or not. Give to the foot an elegant form. The markers that I select are they gather the same characteristics. I select them to be able to use them in several types of gels. And in the gel, stiller those where my fragments of DNA are not well, the most beautiful thing is always the marker. My Merrels that I wear in the lab: not all that fancy, but totally comfortable and serviceable and just what I need! My molecular weight marker just so happens to be an average, run-of-the-mill pair of flip-flops. Nothing fancy, not tailored to my particular outfit...just slip 'em on and take 'em for a spin. There's nothing nicer then a flip-floppity (if there is such a thing) DNA marker. Pre-mixed, ready to go, and easy to use. No fancy labeling properties, no time-consuming dilutions, just load, run and let the fun..I mean results begin. My molecular weight markers would be a sporty yet casually elegant pair of woman's Keen mules. These shoes look good with dresspants, but their treaded soles provide security and comfort when walking on more difficult terrain, ie they are versatile, like my MW markers. These shoes are easy to slip-on and -off, making them convenient to use, also like my MW markers. Lastly, although I love my Keen mules, sometimes an outfit requires a special shoe, such as heels. Answer given with bias to recent return from an island vacation. Sensible shoes. You need a great pair of sensible shoes when you'll be doing a lot of walking. No high heels - they could break. No silk or suede - those can stain. I need a shoe that looks good (doesn't have to look great) and can go the distance. Similarly, my "general use" DNA MW marker has to look good and work every time. I don't need the "bells and whistles" too often, but if I do I'll use a different marker. Shoes? Monk style! So much effort for a DNA molecular marker! In adversity any junk DNA available in the lab will serve the purpose perfectly! Slip on all-weather clogs. Comfortable, easy to use, always ready to go. Just sitting by the back door aiting for me! Sneakers because I am comfortable with them, they work well, are not at all flashy and are economical. Sneakers because you can perform very different kind of sport games, but also because you can use for a simple walk. Sneakers for convenience and practicality. Sneakers It is comfortable and versatile. I know what to expect every time I use it. It is not the newest thing out there, or the flashiest, but it suits me. Spot shoes, healthy, perfectly design for optimum achievement and can't live without! Steel Toed Work Boot: then they could never be colored with fleuffy rainbow colors, they would never fall apart, they would last forever, and I could kick some serious gel butt. Steel toed work boots. They have to work everytime and have to put up with a lot of different people using different methods. Stripey Wellington Boots! The 1kb marker is like strappy high heel shoes. Always reliable to look good but sometimes hurts when you don't have the right activity. The markers are like my favorite pair of sneakers--user freindly, never fail, take a beating, old but good, dependable. The old pair of shoes I only wear to church when my mother-in-law comes to visit. A dependable standby. Haven't moved to a new pair or style in about 6 years... The shoe would be a dark colored (ie. black) cross trainer. This shoe allows for versitility in that it is very supportive for many activities like running, working in the lab, going out to dinner in dress slacks (DNA molecular weight markers should also be versital and supportive for many applications). The shoe is dark colored so that it does not stand out and outshine the individual. Just like DNA markers should not outshine the actual Data. The size standards we use are like comfortable new sneakers. Comfortable, so we know what to expect and how to run in them to take advantage of the support available. New because that means they will support our research appropriately. They are like sandals, comfortable and reliable. They are like the sandals of Buddha leading me to data understanding and enlightenment. :). They are your most comfortable pair of shoes that you wear most often. They should be tap dancing shoes. Each 'tap' is another band. They would be a pair of work boots, a little scuffed and marked up but waterproof, steel-toed, very comfortable and completely reliable. They would be durable, comfortable but smart multicoloured shoes that go with everything and can be worn for smart or casual occasions, to reflect the adaptability of NEB markers to many applications. They would be flip flops that when trapped with sand, allow the sand to pass on by and stay comfy to wear... Plus this must mean I am at the beach and not in the lab. They would be good pair of running shoes, because they would take me where I need to go without any problems. They would be my sneakers. I wear all the time and I don't feel confortable without them. Timberland boots - pricey, but niche, always there and long lasting (built to last for a long time), well made and created. Tiny sparkly strappy sandals - a minimum amount can produce glittering results! To me molecular biology is dirty but necessary work (I do cloning for structural biology purposes). So it would be tough but practical boots for me (waterproof and all). "These boots are made for walking..." (Nancy Sinatra). Trainers. You use them to move around many times a week in situations where a bad step is costly. They ought to be consistent, comfortable and reliable. Utility work boots to get the job done without artifice. Very nice and impressive dress shoes, like "Manolos" but not the original ones: you will get compliments of every man, you can slide in very easy, and they are very impressive! They are comfortable, but they still require care and attention since they have IRD labels. Wide and comfortable, well broken in so it is immediately recognized but not noticed. Regular use means familiarity and immediate recognition of the position of any band. Work boot - use so routinely. Work boots - because it must work all the time! Work boots - it is essential to grant that your DNA manipulations are carried out without errors; it is like your cross checker, therefore it should be with you through all your manipulation steps. Work boots - reliable, comfortable, does the job and won't let me down. Work Boots - they work really well, but not that good-looking. Work boots - they're functional, and I don't need them to be anything more. Work boots ... it does all the work for me ... quantitation, MW determination, visualization, etc. Work boots because I am an outrunner. Work boots because it is usefull. Work boots because it is very reliable. Work boots because they are economical and readily available. Work boots because they are working hard in clarifying our experiments. Work boots becuase it is crucial to my research and I cannot do without it. Work boots with good reliable treads- you must be comfortable with your ladder. Work boots, because I use the markers as a tool in my current work. Work boots, because they get the job done! Work boots, for I view it as part of my work. Work boots, there's nothing fancy about it but it gets the job done and does what I need it to do for my particular method. Work boots, because I give them a hard life. Work boots. I want it to work everytime and be consistent. I do not mind having to dress them up ie. add loading dye, because companies charge way to much to add the dye themselves. Ladders with loading dye in them already is just a scam to charge more. Work boots. I want solid, reliable, always-predictable DNA markers. I want them to be able to put up with a lot of abuse in terms of storage, buffer conditions, agarose concentrations, running temperature, etc. Work boots. It has to withstand the abuse that students, postdocs, technicians and PIs exert. Work boots. it should stable and easy to use. Work boots. It would be old, but continuing to be useful; it would also stand out from all the people who have been brought up with uniformly spaced, but not always easy to distinguish, ladders. Work Boots. Stable, strong, useful and consistent. Work boots. Sturdy, always works, not glamorous. Work boots. They a re needed and required in the molecular biology lab. Work boots...rugged and reliable. Safe and predicatable.. Work boots..since they are tough and rugged. Work boots: not necessarily something I think about a whole lot, nor is it fancy and dressy, but I rely on them very heavily to get the job done without too much trouble (or hurt). When they need repair is when they are noticed, and truly missed! Work boots: The DNA marker is needed to complete my work and to protect me from looking stupid. Work boots do the same thing. They protect the worker from accidents (steel toes) and are therefore needed to do heavy work. And my work is very difficult and heavy. Ha ha. Workboots. It's my shoes that goes everywhere I go. Worn old leather sandals that I have been wearing for the last 10 years. Reliable and strong and never a surprise. You would say 'work boots', marking their presence (on gel) with every heavy step. But you would also say 'sneakers' as sometimes it is used thus to 'sneak a peek' at the devloping pattern in the gel. And finally you would call it also 'dress shoes' when it is used to enhance a nice view of the gel to be presented... |
