I especially enjoy writing book reviews; at least I dont have to feel embarrassed by the geek-level of the books I like reading. 3. Helping fellow scientists with their research is sort of an extension of what I do all day as medical school faculty. 4. SAB is a good place to turn to for help with the tricky little things about experiments. 5. SAB members are good folk to commiserate with over lab failures, grant application failures, etc. 6. The prizes! The prizes! 7. SAB is a good place to learn about new products, equipment, protocols, reagents. 8. The SAB forums are filled with real-life experience and expectations on everything from enzyme sources to dealing with frustrating mentors.
